Large Power Solutions

1. Inquiry & Initial Consultation

Customer submits an LPS inquiry form and meets with Grant PUD's Large Power Solutions (LPS) team.

Our team will review your proposed project, discuss your power needs, location, and timeline, and answer questions about the application process. This initial consultation helps determine whether the project is a good fit for the existing electric system and identifies any constraints and potential next steps.

2. Application & Application Fee

Customer submits a Large Electric Service Application and applicable fee.

The application provides the information needed to initiate a more comprehensive review of the request. After the application fee is paid and the packet is accepted, the project is assigned a LPS Application ID number and enters Grant PUD's large-load connections process.

3. System Review & Impact Evaluation

Grant PUD evaluates the electrical system and its ability to serve the requested load.

Depending on the size and location of the request, Grant PUD may conduct engineering studies to assess available capacity, identify necessary system improvements, and evaluate impacts on the electric system. Some projects may qualify for previously completed studies and require only limited additional review.

The system study evaluation helps determine the appropriate path to meet the requested load and identifies any infrastructure needed to support the project.

Large load requests are typically handled through the LPS process. Requests for total site ≤2 MW may be coordinated through Commercial Services and, depending on the project's characteristics and service requirements, assigned to a customer service engineer via a work order. If so, steps 4-7 below will differ for these customers.

4. Facilities Planning

Grant PUD develops a preliminary plan to serve the requested load.

This phase identifies the facilities, infrastructure improvements, estimated costs, and construction approach that may be required to provide electric service to the project.

5. Facility Agreement

Grant PUD and the customer finalize project scope, responsibilities, and costs.

A Facility Agreement outlines the infrastructure required to provide service, project costs, customer contributions, and other key terms needed to proceed with construction.

6. Design & Construction

Grant PUD designs, procures, and constructs the required electrical facilities.

Project schedules vary based on facility requirements, equipment availability, permitting, and construction complexity. In some cases, provisional or interim service options may be available.

7. Service Readiness & Required Payments

Complete final requirements prior to energization.

Before electrical service can be energized, all applicable agreements must be executed, required customer contributions must be paid, necessary inspections must be completed, and any applicable deposits must be provided in accordance with Grant PUD policies and rate schedules.

8. Electric Service & Ongoing Partnership

Customer receives service under an approved rate schedule.

Once all requirements are met and facilities are ready for service, Grant PUD energizes the connection and begins electric service under the applicable rate schedule. Grant PUD continues to work with customers throughout operations, growth, and future expansion planning.
