In April 2025, Grant PUD’s Energy Services department, in partnership with 2nd Harvest, hosted another impactful Mobile Food Bank event in Ephrata, Washington. This biannual initiative by Grant PUD, launched in September 2023, continues to make a meaningful difference for families facing food insecurity across Grant County while promoting the utility’s conservation and assistance programs.
A Community-Driven Mission
The Mobile Food Bank is designed to support vulnerable households and raise awareness of Grant PUD’s Income-Qualified program resources. Held twice a year in rotating communities, the program aligns with the Clean Energy Transformation Act (CETA) requirements for community outreach. Each event is free, open to the public, and requires no registration, identification, or proof of income, ensuring accessibility for all.
Local farmers and grocers donate an array of fresh and nutritious groceries, including milk, apples, pears, chicken, soups, bread, and vegetables. On average, each event serves over 200 families, distributing more than 9,000 meals. The April 2025 Ephrata event alone supported 215 families, providing 9,028 meals, with 24 Grant PUD volunteers contributing 84 hours of service.
A Legacy of Impact
Since its inception, the Mobile Food Bank has reached hundreds of families across Grant County:
- September 2023, Grand Coulee: 197 families served.
- May 2024, Wanapum Heritage Center: 180 families, 687 individuals supported.
- September 2024, Grand Coulee: 208 families, 9,317 meals distributed.
- April 2025, Ephrata: 215 families, 9,028 meals provided.
These events reflect Grant PUD’s commitment to addressing food insecurity while fostering community connection. Each event is staffed by 20-30 dedicated volunteers who handle setup, grocery distribution, and customer support, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience.
Collaborative Efforts
Grant PUD’s Energy Services department spearheads the Mobile Food Bank, managing logistics, and planning. Support from the External Affairs team for marketing and collaboration opportunities is given for local promotion. The partnership with 2nd Harvest amplifies the program’s reach, combining local resources with a shared mission to uplift communities.
Looking Ahead
The next Mobile Food Bank is scheduled for September 17, 2025, in Warden, Washington. Grant PUD invites the community of Warden to join this free event, where families can access nutritious groceries and learn about energy conservation and assistance programs.
Rooted in Grant PUD’s core value of service and powered by teamwork, the Mobile Food Bank events unite Grant’s employees and communities to nourish families and uplift Grant County together.
